This week, at USITT 2025 in Columbus, OH, we’re thrilled to introduce Red Escénica Migrante (REM), a new international network devoted to supporting Latin American and Spanish-speaking immigrant designers and performing arts technicians. This initiative is more than just a professional network—it’s a much-needed platform to connect, empower, and advocate for the talent, training, and contributions of immigrant theatre artists across the United States.
A Partnership to Strengthen the Voices of Immigrant Theatre Artists
We are very proud to announce that Skene.pub is the lead publishing partner and a sponsor of Red Escénica Migrante. As part of this collaboration, Skene is committed to providing a platform for REM members to share their stories, perspectives, and professional insights. Readers can expect to see profiles and opinion pieces from network members, as well as joint initiatives such as live salons and informational sessions aimed at fostering deeper industry conversations.
To make this collaboration as accessible as possible, we are also happy to host Red Escénica Migrante homepage on our website. You can find it in our menu under ABOUT US. This is just the beginning—more joint projects and initiatives are on the way. We invite you to follow our coverage and engage with the work of REM members as we amplify these important voices in the theatre community.

Presenting REM at USITT 2025
The network will be officially presented during the panel “Building Bridges: A National Network for Latin American and Spanish-Speaking Immigrant Designers and Performing Arts Technicians” at USITT 2025 in Columbus OH. This discussion aims to dispel common myths surrounding the recruitment of international students and artists, the supposed disparities in training levels, and the bureaucratic challenges that often deter institutions from engaging with immigrant talent.
Why Red Escénica Migrante?
For years, Latin American and Spanish-speaking immigrant designers, technicians, and theatre artists have faced systemic barriers in education, hiring, and professional development in the U.S. The misconception that international students are difficult to recruit or that foreign-trained professionals may not meet U.S. industry standards has contributed to missed opportunities for both institutions and artists alike.
Yet, these barriers are largely built on misunderstanding rather than reality. Many Latin American theatre programs offer rigorous training that is on par with, if not exceeding, certain U.S. standards. However, these programs often remain under-recognized in the American theatre landscape. Red Escénica Migrante seeks to bridge that knowledge gap, provide resources, and create pathways for immigrant theatre professionals to thrive in the U.S.
