Mi trabajo como artista inició con la carrera en Arte Teatral, como actriz (por este motivo empecé a maquillar, para mis presentaciones) Como esas cosas que no te esperas, las puertas se me abrieron como maquillista de inmediato, tanto, que empecé a trabajar de inmediato, después de mi primer Taller de Maquillaje y al salir de la carrera, maquillé en mi primera película. Con el tiempo decidí dedicarme sólo al maquillaje, para enfocarme a desarrollar bien esta faceta.
My work as an artist began with a degree in Theatre Arts, as an actress (which is why I started doing makeup, for my performances). Like those unexpected things in life, doors immediately opened for me as a makeup artist—so much so that I began working right away, right after my first Makeup Workshop, and upon finishing my degree, I did the makeup for my first film. Over time, I decided to dedicate myself solely to makeup, in order to fully develop this side of my craft.

Lo que hice fue vestirme de monje para entrar al escenario como tal y hacer el cambio de espaldas a público. Técnicamente debí hacer uso de varias técnicas de maquillaje: Teatral y Prostéticos (FX) pegados de manera estratégica, para lograr el cambio sobre el escenario y en 20 segundos. Una locura muy divertida.

Considero que existen muchos caminos para llegar a la creación y de vez en cuando, me gusta brincar de uno a otro, para permitirme el asombro, el hallazgo. A veces, me gusta partir de la cotidianidad: extraer algo de ella y crear a partir de ello. Otras veces, realizo investigaciones históricas (sobre todo cuando hago diseño de época) y añado la visión que tiene la persona que dirige el montaje, para empezar a diseñar. Otras veces lo hago a partir de emociones: voy eligiendo colores que representen el estado de ánimo, ya sea mío o del personaje, hasta ir encontrando ideas interesantes. En fin, el camino a la creación es infinito.
I believe there are many paths that lead to creation, and from time to time, I like to jump from one to another to allow myself wonder and discovery. Sometimes I like to start from everyday life: extracting something from it and creating from there. Other times, I carry out historical research (especially when I’m doing period design) and add the vision of the person directing the production as a starting point for designing. Other times I work from emotions: I choose colors that represent a mood, whether my own or the character’s, until I start finding interesting ideas. In the end, the path to creation is infinite.
Considero que el trabajo del artista, se compone de 2 polos: Su arte y su SER; para mí ambos son inherentes uno del otro, por lo que el crecimiento de uno, va ligado a lo otro. Dicho esto, el proyecto que más me ha retado, es uno donde me tocó liderar el Departamento de maquillaje y peinado de una Ópera monumental. Eran más de 160 artistas en escena y era mi responsabilidad que todos salieran maquillados. Aparte de esta encomienda, era mi responsabilidad lograr extraer lo mejor de mi equipo de maquillistas en tiempo récord y salva guardar también la cordura y bienestar del mismo. Por lo que, debía procurar este bienestar y cordura primero en mí, para poder extrapolarlo a los demás. Esto requiere un gran trabajo interno.
I believe that an artist’s work is made up of two poles: their art and their BEING; for me both are inherent to one another, so the growth of one is tied to the other. That said, the project that has challenged me the most was one where I had to lead the makeup and hair department of a monumental opera. There were more than 160 performers on stage, and it was my responsibility to ensure they were all made up. Beyond this task, it was also my responsibility to bring out the best in my team of makeup artists in record time while also safeguarding their sanity and well-being. For that reason, I had to ensure this well-being and balance within myself first, in order to extend it to others. This requires deep inner work.
Me inspiro de todas partes: armonías de colores, formas interesantes y fluidas; de la música; olores; una plática con otras personas; lo que te acontece como persona o en el mundo; para mí todo es información y la clave está en mantener nuestra percepción abierta para captar esos “insights” que detonarán una nueva creación.
I draw inspiration from everywhere: color harmonies, interesting and fluid shapes; music; scents; a conversation with others; what happens to you as a person or in the world. For me, everything is information, and the key is to keep our perception open to capture those “insights” that will spark a new creation.
Que cada vez veo a más artistas del maquillaje ocupándose de su Arte; de lo que quieren transmitir de manera genuina y no sólo ser excelentes ejecutantes o influyentes en RRSS. Me emociona, porque es bello ver a más artistas creando desde la autenticidad.
I see more and more makeup artists focusing on their Art—on what they want to genuinely express, and not just on being excellent performers or influencers on social media. It excites me, because it’s beautiful to see more artists creating from a place of authenticity.
Que se atrevan a crear desde su Ser auténtico, a través de un viaje por su mundo interior. A medida que nos detenemos para sentirnos, escucharnos y explorar nuevas maneras de hacer las cosas, es que empezaremos a descubrir qué es aquello que nos hace irrepetibles. Y cuando tenemos un panorama claro, la plenitud al momento de crear, crece.
Somos manifestadores de nuestra realidad y de cada pieza que creamos. Nosotros tenemos el gran poder de elegir dónde depositar nuestra atención y energía para crear nuestra realidad y nuestra obra; a medida que tenemos un panorama claro de lo que SÍ queremos, será más sencillo decidir qué caminos recorrer para desarrollar nuestra vida y carrera.
May they dare to create from their authentic Being, through a journey into their inner world. As we pause to feel ourselves, listen to ourselves, and explore new ways of doing things, we begin to discover what makes us unrepeatable. And when we gain a clear perspective, the sense of fulfillment in the act of creating grows.
We are manifesters of our reality and of every piece we create. We have the great power to choose where to place our attention and energy in order to shape our reality and our work; as we gain a clear vision of what we DO want, it becomes easier to decide which paths to take in developing our life and career.
Trabajo por compartir el mensaje de que nuestra mejor obra se revelará ante nuestros ojos, a medida que nos sumerjamos en un viaje de autoconocimiento; por ello creo experiencias educativas que me permitan enseñar eso. Particularmente, elijo ser un canal que pueda reflejar la grandeza y el talento de los demás y eso requiere que mantenga mi canal limpio para que fluya la energía correcta. Cada que veo que mis alumnos y compañeros descubren su propia grandeza, me siento ejecutando mi propósito. Ese es el impacto que elijo compartir.
I work to share the message that our best work will reveal itself before our eyes as we immerse ourselves in a journey of self-discovery; that is why I create educational experiences that allow me to teach this. In particular, I choose to be a channel that can reflect the greatness and talent of others, and that requires me to keep my channel clear so the right energy can flow. Every time I see my students and colleagues discover their own greatness, I feel I am fulfilling my purpose. That is the impact I choose to share.
